Some basic common sense within seek a PCB supplier

As we know, the Printed Circuit Boards or PCBs have revolutionized the electronics industry in the last 90 years and they are used in every imaginable electronic gadget.

As a result, a PCB factory plays the role of a catalyst for industrial progress. This is based on the fact that no electronic device can be built without PCBs.

Be it battery-operated toys, cell phones, music players, TVs, computers, automobiles, aircraft – everything has some sort of application for PCBs.

It has the charm if being smaller than other circuits and the reduced size is the secret of its durability. For mass-producers, it is the cheapest method that offers huge cost benefits.

PCBs have three main elements:

• A laminate board

• Components mounted on board

• Traces connecting components in the circuit

Several materials used in making the boards, among them there are the major six—-FR-1, FR-2, FR-3, FR-4, CEM-1, and CEM-3. FR stands for flame retardant. For building multilayer boards CEM-3, FR-4 is used.

FR-4 is more widely manufactured and is cheaper and has excellent thermal tolerance up to 130°C.

Some boards also require the use of gold for creating sensitive, low-voltage applications or lead-free (RoHS) compliance.

In terms of its making, a printed circuit board (PCB) mechanically supports and electrically connects electronic components by way of conductive traces, etched from copper sheets laminated onto a non-conductive substrate.

The main components such as capacitors, resistors, and active devices are soldered on the PCB. In advanced PCBs components are embedded in the substrate.

PCBs can be single sided (one copper layer), double sided (two copper layers) or multi-layer (outer and inner layers). The conductors on different layers are connected with vias and multi-layer PCBs allowing higher component density.

In PCBs, FR-4 glass epoxy is the primary insulating substrate. The basic building block of the PCB is an FR-4 panel with a thin layer of copper laminated to one or both sides. In multi-layer boards, the layers are laminated together.

Circuits with PCBs will be cheaper and faster than other wiring methods. In OCBs, mounted components are wired with one single part with operator errors eliminated. It is big business for multi layer PCB suppliers. Their production is automated and the volumes are also big.

It follows that the PCB supplier selection process has to be meticulous with a premium placed on reliability for quality supply of prototype and production. Always choose suppliers for their capacity for best front-end design, material selection, manufacturability, lamination, and plating.
